Enamel Protein Amelotin-Coated Nano Hydroxyapatite for Accelerated Dentin Remineralization

Remineralization of demineralized dentin is of considerable clinical interest as it may prevent failure in dental restoration. Amelotin (AMTN) is an enamel protein that has a direct influence on the biomineralization of enamel by promoting hydroxyapatite mineralization. In this study, we harnessed the mineral-inducing properties of AMTN to remineralize demineralized dentin by coating the protein on hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HANP). Collagen gel and demineralized dentin sections of human third molars were used as our model system. It was shown that AMTN coated HANP accelerates the formation of a larger and more homogeneous mineral surface with higher crystallinity on both collagen and demineralized dentin.
