Optimal Location of UPQC in Fourteen Bus Distribution Network for Power Quality Improvement

The usage of Microgrid concept is getting attention extensively and is ready to capture the area of consumer side in coming future. Integration of distributed generation (DG) is an advanced way to satisfy different loads but suffer power quality issues. Power quality (PQ) problems have been a major issue at consumer premises. The main power quality disturbances in accordance with IEEE are transients, swells, sags, undervoltage, overvoltage, harmonics etc. The outcome of these disturbances affects both consumer side and production side with poor power which urge Power Quality (PQ) improvement at its best level. Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) is the only versatile device which is used to meliorate both voltage and current quality. This paper proposes a new methodology for reactive power compensation which allows for PQ improvement by presenting UPQC. The main focus is to develop new sensitivity index for the optimal placement of UPQC. The control strategy of the UPQC system used in the proposed work includes two parts, namely series control and shunt control. The proposed work also focuses on hybridization of wind-solar system in distribution network. The simulation results show improvement of power quality in distribution network with different load conditions.
