Circulating Current Control of Parallel Connected Converters

Boost converters step up the input voltage given to them. They belong to the class of switched-mode power supply. Parallel connected DC-DC boost converters exhibit a large number of advantages including generation of high output current, increase in output power capability, etc. But certain problems arise during such a connection. Some of them include the rise of circulating current between converters, regulation of output voltage and undesirable load sharing. This paper investigates the effects of parallel connection of boost converters on load sharing and output current. The open-loop control and closed-loop control of boost converters is compared. The results and observations from the simulation and experiment are presented to verify the effects of parallel connection of boost converters on load sharing and circulating current.
