Review on Generation Expansion Planning based on Indonesia as an Archipelagic Country

Indonesia, an archipelagic country that has unequal distribution of energy resources pose problems in generation expansion planning (GEP) i.e. power system modeling, hybrid system modeling, and fossil fuel supply and price uncertainty. These problems can be solved by using the right GEP model. To get the right model, paper review is needed on power modeling systems, hybrid modeling systems, and uncertainty modeling of fossil fuel supply and price. This research reviews the GEP method based on those aspects. The purpose of this review is to determine the GEP model that is suitable for Indonesia. Based on the review results, the model that can be used is decentralized-hybrid system-fuel supply and price uncertainty and centralized-conventional-fossil fuel supply and price uncertainty. Hybrid systems are modeled with a combination of fossil plants with renewable or renewable with renewable. In addition, hybrid systems can also be modeled using storage or not using storage. Uncertainty modeling for fossil fuel availability and price is done by using Montecarlo simulation because it has advantages in using a large number of samples so that it will provide better accuracy of uncertainty modeling.
