Design and Implementation SEPIC Converter Using PI Controller for Solution Power Quality Improvement

The unidirectional voltage source of the electric power system is obtained through uncontrolled full wave rectifiers. The uncontrolled full wave rectifier works to rectify the output voltage of the down transformer (low frequency transformer) while the transformer input voltage comes from a 220 volt AC source. The installation of a large capacitor value as a filter in the rectifier can cause the input current wave to not be sinusoidal (distorted) to cause harmonic difficulties while the input voltage from the net remains sinusoidal. The difference in waveforms between current and voltage will result in a power factor. If the waveform between voltage and current is not in phase, the power factor produced is small. Based on the problem obtained, it is made about research on the improvement factor using SEPIC Converter which is functioned as Power Factor Correction (PFC). Sepic Converter must operate in Discontinous Current Mode (DCM). When rectifiers supply resistive load current that flows to the same waveform power source input voltage so that the power factor is needed. In this research the power factor is increased from 0.77 (leading) to 0.92 (leading) leading) and the THD value of change in flows decreased from 59% to 21.8%.
