IoT based Remote Monitoring of mass Solar Panels

The paper proposes an embedded system to aid in the remote monitoring of inverters in a Solar power plant. The knowledge about the total power generated and general aspects of the system performance can only be obtained manually in the Solar power plant. This proposed system uses Raspberry pi as the controller board. The inverters are connected in a Daisy chain fashion and the final inverter is connected to the Raspberry Pi. The total power and five failsafe parameters grid_fault, pv_over, over_current, over_temp and short_circuit are obtained from the inverters using Modbus protocol. Sensors are used to measure Temperature, Wind speed and Solar Irradiance. The total power, failsafe parameters and the sensor data are uploaded to the SQL database over the internet using a wi-fi module connected to the Raspberry Pi. The user is provided with credentials to log in to a developed webpage, which enables them to view all those before mentioned details. The user can now have access to the solar power plant's details from a remote location.
