Towards a System-Level Model of a Tunable Dual-Frequency Piezoelectric Energy Harvester

In this work, we present a system-level model of a dual-frequency piezoelectric energy harvester based on a folded beam structure. Magnetic actuation is used for tuning the resonance frequency to the ambient frequency and thus achieve maximum power output. A lumped-element model is proposed to describe the mechanical behavior of the harvester’s mechanical structure. Furthermore, mathematical model order reduction is applied to generate a compact, but extremely accurate model of the piezoelectric energy harvester. It is co-simulated with an electrical circuit, a tuning mechanism and a control algorithm.
