Abstract:

In this contribution, we present a simulation-based parametric design optimization of a novel multi-resonant piezoelectric energy harvesting device. The optimization process involves two stages. In the first stage, we use a global evolutionary algorithm to explore the entire design domain and identify regions of optimal designs. In the second stage, we perform a gradient-based local optimization inside these previously identified basin regions to obtain the respective optimal design. The final optimization results show all desired characteristics. For validation of the optimization results, we fabricated and characterized one of the optimal designs. Even though the experimental results comply with the prediction of the simulation, quantitatively, there are some obvious deviations, which we plan to investigate in our future work.
