Research on Parallel Development of Wuzhen Scenic Area and Non-Scenic Area

The waterside dwellings in northern Zhejiang have distinctive characteristics of the water town in the south of the Yangtze river, among which Wuzhen is very representative. Its traditional creation spirit and ecological ideas contain huge public benefits and low-carbon environmental protection value, providing us with a development model of harmony between man and nature, which is of great guiding and referential significance for the development of China’s contemporary urbanization. Based on the fact that Zhejiang provincial government approved Tongxiang to build Wuzhen provincial tourism pilot zone in December 2012 and Tongxiang would build the largest tourism county in China, “Small Wuzhen” – the concept of going-out local culture was introduced. Through the exploration and arrangement of the architectural space constructed by the traditional creation spirit, “Big Wuzhen” – the concept of bringing-in urban design was put forward in the process of urban development, and it was also proposed that Small Wuzhen and Big Wuzhen would run in parallel, the scenic area and non-scenic area develop in a coordinated and balanced manner, and build a contemporary community life, to achieve harmonious and healthy development.
