SPIDAR-Welder a haptic interface for virtual welding training

This work presents a virtual reality system, based on a cable-driven haptic interface for training and improving the sensory-motor skills of trainees in the welding profession, in which the trainee can feel the contact between the welding tool and the virtual objects to be welded. This interface allows to train on different welding situations, in order to improve the movements of the trainee's hand and to offer a means of control for the trainers. Training in a virtual world allows to avoid the risks related to real training. Experiments show the ease of use of this interface for training, and its ability to train on different welding situations.
