The Engaged Have Better Qualifications? The Academic Engagement Roll in the Academic Performance

The engagement is an important psychological factor to study, for this reason, the present research aims to identify the relationships between the academic engagement (agential, cognitive, behavioral and emotional engagement) and academic performance in university students. The participants were 102 university students (92 women (90.2%) and 10 men (9.8%)) between 19 and 56 years old (Mage = 26.39, SD = 7.75). One concludes, the agential engagement (r = .41, p <; .001), the behavioral engagement (r = .25, p <; .05), the emotional engagement (r = .24, p <; .001), and the cognitive engagement (r = .41, p <; .001) are related with academic performance variable. Finally, the analysis of multiple lineal regressions shows the agential engagement (β =.27, p<; .05) and cognitive engagement (β =.32, p<; .05) predict positively the academic performance. But, behavioral engagement (β =-.03, p>.05) and emotional engagement (β =-.09, p>.05) do not predict the academic performance.
