An analysis of specific parameters regarding the extraction of crude oil with an electric driven pumping unit

The paper refers to the electric drive of the crude oil beam pumping unit, with a squirrel-cage asynchronous motor controlled in the Direct Torque Control technique. A complete pumping cycle has two strokes: one upward in which the electric machine works in motor mode and one downward in which the machine works in generator mode, which can be considered a braking regime. By determining the variation of the mechanical parameters of the pumping unit (total load torque, operating speed, oil flow and pumping phase), obtained with primary level programs, a Simulink diagram of the electric drive has been developed in order to obtain other important parameters of the electric drive, which can operate at different frequencies. An important conclusion of this paper is that the energy dissipated by the electric drive during the downward stroke period has significant values in all the studied situations and it is necessary to carry out studies regarding its recovery possibilities.
