A Solution for Reducing Harmonic Regime and Reactive Power Absorbed by a Cycloconverter

The paper is devoted to the analysis of the operation of a high-power cycloconverter with a load type R + L: the harmonics and reactive regime with respect to the load and the supply network. Based on this analysis a solution is proposed to reduce harmonics and to compensate the reactive power absorbed from the network using an active power filter with indirect control. The solution is validated by numerical simulation in the SimPower Systems environment and is characterized by a simple implementation and outstanding static and dynamic performance.
