An enhancement to MRME techniques for video compression

The wavelet transform is a valuable tool in video compression because of its flexibility. Zhang and Zafar [1992] proposed a video compression algorithm based on the wavelet transform and multiresolution motion estimation (MRME), but MRME doesn't consider the aliasing effects caused by downsampling in the transform. In this article, we use a special interpolation filter to remove those effects. The combined MRME techniques greatly improve the coding performance. Experiments also show subjectively pleasing reconstructed pictures.
