Assessment planning for the new Bachelor of Engineering Technology programme

The establishment of the new Bachelor of Engineering Technology qualification has brought many challenges for curriculum developers. In particular, the challenges pertaining to assessment of the newly developed graduate attributes require careful consideration, as the approach should be in line with what is envisaged by the Engineering Council of South Africa's standard. In this work, we analyse some of the implications of the new qualification standard on the shift in approach to assessing graduate attributes. We propose a model for assessing the graduate attributes and collection of evidence of compliance. The findings of implementation of this model for assessment of one of the graduate attributes are given. We also relate some experience with the adoption of this assessment approach.
