Investigation of a 16 channel 40 Gbps varied GVD DWDM system using dispersion compensating fiber

With increase in demand of larger data traffic and high-speed connectivity, it has become very much essential to improve the performance of the communication model. Dense wavelength division multiplexed network allows multiple number of channels at different wavelengths to transmit through a single fiber there by providing a solution to this ever-increasing demand. However optical communication using DWDM can badly suffer from limitations like dispersion and Non-linearities. Dispersion spreads the pulse in time domain there by giving rise to time delay and inter symbol interference. In this paper an effective method for dispersion compensation is proposed for a 16 channel DWDM network transmitting data up to 120 km at 40 GBPS. Further the performance of DWDM network is analyzed for various modulation formats like RZ, NRZ, CSRZ, Duo-Binary etc. and the best results are proposed. The entire simulation is done using optisystem 14 software.
