Digital Test bench for Testing of Gear Position Sensor

Gear position sensors are widely used in automobile industries. A gear position sensor is a mechanism that determines which gear is being turned on by a vehicle or motorcycle. The traditional technique of testing such sensors at different angles and observing the features of their output is performed manually. Manual testing consumes lots of time and sometimes result may be inaccurate so the quality of product decreases. To overcome such problems, the industry needs a digital test setup. This project describes the process of implementing a test bench for Gear Position Sensor (GPS) testing. By using digital test setup, performance parameters such as accuracy, system efficiency increases and time required to calibrate the sensors reduces. The proposed system contains a gear position sensor which is needed to be tested. Depending on the angular movement of the hybrid stepper motor, the gear position sensor is tested. The movement of a hybrid stepper motor is controlled by a push button switch. Here, Renesas microcontroller is used to drive the hybrid stepper motor and display digital output on a 16*2 LCD. An encoder is used for motion control and motion feedback of hybrid stepper motor and whose output is fed back as an input to the controller.
