A millimeter-wave system for the remote sensing of acidic clouds and precursor gases in the troposphere

Two millimeter-wave spectrometer systems are presented. The first operates in the 146–150 GHz and 162–166 GHz ranges, and is used to infer tropospheric abundances of COS, gaseous HNO3, H2CO, H2S, N2O, SO2, and O3, all of which are gases closely related to the formation of acid precipitation. The second system operates in the 15 to 30 GHz range and would be used to infer acidity of tropospheric clouds.
