An accurate model for system performance analysis of optical fibre networks with in-line filtering

We show that system performance degradation due to in-line optical filtering by wavelength routing nodes in WDM networks can be correctly modelled using digital communications theory of band-limited channels with linear equalization. Experimental validation using a commercial transponder and fibre nonlinear transmission is presented.
