Enhancement of Mechanical Properties of Aluminum Piston Alloy Using Al2O3 Material

Due to the features of Aluminum alloys: high thermal conductivity, light weight and easy machinability are the preferred materials to be consider for the pistons manufacturing in internal combustion engines. In order to promote the mechanical properties of the Aluminum matrix alloy of the piston, an experimental investigation performed by adding Alumina Nano particles Al
₂
O
₃
with size of 25 μm to the Aluminum matrix alloy of the piston. Stir casting method adopted to produce the desired composites by adding different weight percentage ratios of alumina Nano particles of 2%, 4% and 6% respectively to the master alloy. Results of the experimental work showed enhancement with addition of alumina Nano particles in the hardness property and tensile strength property in composite alloy before reaching 6% weight ratio.
