Comparison between Doppler Ultrasound and Catheter in Cardiac disease

The aims of the current study were to assess the outcome of Doppler and catheter gradient pressures, investigate which one of those two pressures could have a more significant effect on heart diseases such as pulmonary stenosis, and see the possible differences that might be predictable by Doppler echocardiography. In this study, a catheterization data from 132 patients who had congenital valvular pulmonary stenosis and balloon pulmonary valvoplasty has been reviewed. The pressure of right atrial, pulmonary artery, and difference between the right ventricle and pulmonary artery pressure before and after valvuloplasty, infundibular constriction presence or absence and related anomalies were recorded. Some previous studies have shown an overestimation of Doppler level by catheter without reaching the significant level. Other studies have reported an agreement between catheter gradients and Doppler. The results have been shown that using Doppler gradient, there is an increase in blood pressure higher than that seen with catheter gradient. The conclusion from this study is take the difference between the two techniques study and the effect of the size of vessels which is obviously has an important effect. I also recommend giving more attention to the probe type and direction that seem to be ignored in many hospitals in Iraq including those in Erbil.
