Optimal Resource Allocation of Rural Microgrid using Linear and Non-Linear Algorithm

In the present work, the electrification of the rural community by using renewable energy-based proposed for a microgrid providing energy to a remote cluster of villages in Uttarakhand (India) examined. Two categories of optimization techniques tried, namely, Linear programming (simplex) and Nonlinear programming using Simulated Annealing(SA) and Genetic algorithm (GA). The microgrid energy system studied consists of locally available resources such as a solar photovoltaic system, wind energy system micro-hydro system, and biogas and biomass energy system. The motive of the modeling is to optimize the total cost of energy under different constraints. Further, evaluation under intermittency and uncertainty in the supply of renewable energy resources also considered. It contributes to the investigation of several microgrid sub-models. The findings of the study indicate for the electrification of the rural community proper planning of model, and appropriate choice of optimization method is necessary. In the present model, GA provides a better optimization of cost function as compared to the simulated Annealing and simplex method.
