Nonintrusive Measurement of Elevator Velocity Based on Inertial and Barometric Sensors in Autonomous Node

For the condition monitoring of technical objects, modern tools are used to measure basic parameters, based on which detailed estimates can be made of the condition of the site and the need for maintenance. This paper presents the design and implementation of an intelligent energy-autonomous plug-and-play sensor unit, which enables a cost-effective way to modernize existing elevator systems in terms of condition monitoring capabilities. The sensor node measures the position of the elevator and its velocity using an inertial measurement unit (IMU) in conjunction with a barometric sensor. Preliminary results showed that the measured basic parameters are a good prerequisite for fault diagnosis and also allow for quick decision making for repair and maintenance and hence the reduction of breakdown time of the elevators.
