Required Delay-based Network Sub-Slices Resource Optimization for 5G Radio Access Network

5G standard has three broad services categories, eMBB, mMTC and URLLC. A set of users requesting for one of the above categories with QoS, need system resources support. The system resources for a category between user equipment (UEs) and base station (gNB) creates a network slice. Each category hosts multiple services. Each service logically carves out a portion of the total allocated system resources to form a sub-slice. These sub-slices are defined as grouping of users having similar Service Level Agreement (SLA). In some scenarios, system resources allocated to users per sub-slice may not be sufficient for SLAs, leading to resource migration (intra-sub-slice migration). Intra-sub-slice migration may have major limitations, due to SLA degradation by increase in number of users or channel condition deterioration. To overcome the above, a few literatures present isolation of slice from SLA degradation. However, ensuring isolation based on the average delay and optimum throughput across varying sub-slice profiles (user profiles and channel characteristics) is complex and still an open problem. This paper has proposed a novel Isolation-based Sub-slices Optimization Delay (ISOD) algorithm for required latency across varying sub-slice profiles. ISOD computes the optimum sub-slice resources required for isolation to support SLA for average delay and throughput. Extensive simulation results based on the closed form analytical models, reveal that ISOD achieves minimum of 3 times improvement, with respect to, average delay and average cell throughput compared to well-known existing latest algorithms in literature.
