Capacitive Properties Study of Tissues in Venipuncture

This article discusses the possibility of using the capacitive properties of biological tissues to determine automatically the position of an injection needle. The relevance of this problem is justified by the statistics of the World Health Organization, according to which injection is the most massive invasive procedure related to blood sampling, treatment and vaccination. One of the most serious problems is the strong dependence of the effectiveness of the procedure on the level of professionalism of the medical worker. Automation of the process can be the solution, but it guarantees high accuracy and reliability of the injection. Thus, the development of auxiliary systems for assisting a doctor using objective monitoring methods is an urgent task in modern biomedical engineering. This article proposes a method for tracking the position of the needle by phase shift. Using this method in biological media with non-uniform resistivity allows one to determine the position of even an ordinary injection needle, without applying special coatings to it. The experiments described in the work were carried out using standard injection needles 23G. Studies have shown that this method can uniquely determine the moment of transition from one medium to another using standard medical needles without additional coating.
