Modeling and Mitigating 5G Wireless Downlink Interferences for Low-altitude Aerial vehicles

Future 5G networks will serve both terrestrial and aerial users, thanks to their network slicing and flexible numerology capabilities. The probability of Line-of-Sight (LoS) propagation will be intuitively higher for aerial users than for terrestrial users and this will provide a trade-off between increased capacity and increased interference. Our paper analyzes theoretically this trade-off and proposes solutions based on downlink multiantenna beamſorming and joint optimization of the signal-to- interference ratio of multiple aerial users. It is shown that Multiple-Input-Single-Output solutions offer the most convenient tradeoff between complexity and capacity/interference performance. Simulation results are provided for mm Wave bands and low-altitude aerial vehicles.
