Design & Simulation of PID Control Based Low Power Voltage Controlled SC- Buck Converter Eliminating Startup Voltage Stress Issues

A low power voltage controlled SC (series capacitor) buck converter with high Buck ratio (conversion ratio) is proposed in this paper. The voltage stress of the switches at starting conditions is eliminated by this proposed dc-dc converter. Compared to conventional converters, an additional capacitor is added but the equivalent capacitance is maintained as same along with reduction of voltage across the switches. In this, a closed loop with PID controller is introduced in order to maintain constant load voltage under the varying input conditions. The design of the proposed converter is simulated under open loop and closed loop conditions and the results are obtained and validated with experimental setup.
