Comparative Analysis Between Fixed Tilt And Tracked PV System In Tropical Climate

Climate change, rising fuel cost and cost reduction of renewable energy power generation have pushed the development of this technology to develop expeditiously. The condition in Indonesia, especially the eastern part of Indonesia which consists of islands make the electrical system distributed. Conventional power plants that might be used to power electricity to this island is only a diesel generator system (DG). The impact is PLN suffered heavy losses because the tariffs of diesel generator were far higher than the electricity tariffs in general. Photovoltaic power generation (PV) can compete with the diesel generator tariff. Regrettably, this competition is also influenced by fluctuations in fuel prices and political economic conditions that can change the DG tariff any time. PT PJB conducts research to make PV system tariff more competitive than DG to optimize the production of PV based on the types of PV mounting systems including fixed tilt, single and dual axis tracker installed on grid system with the aim of proving the type of mounting system that is suitable for tropical regions, especially in Indonesia. The results of PT PJB's research prove that solar PV with tracking system is very suitable to be installed in tropical climate areas. It is proven by the percentage of output energy and specific yield tracking greater than the fix tilt system is equal to 13,17% (single axis and 23,56% (dual axis).
