2D Eddy Currents Imaging & Fuzzy Similarities for Assessing the Integrity of Steel Plates

Bi-axially loads applied to steel plates provide mechanical deformations, whose 2D representations are extremely difficult to be obtained. Here, we propose a novel procedure, based on the Eddy Currents techniques (ECs), that provides 2D electrical maps able to validate the mechanical integrity of an assigned steel plate. This is obtained by translating the mechanical integrity problem in terms of a suitable classification problem, using the fuzzy similarities approach. Numerical results demonstrate that the performances of the proposed technique are comparable to those provided by the more established soft computing techniques, but characterized by a lower computational burden.
