Miniature ultrasonic transducer for lab-on-a-chip applications

An ultrasonic transducer made from LiNbO3 was designed and manufactured using periodically poled domain technology. The working frequency of the transducer with the linear dimensions of 0.5×1×2 mm³ was about 60 MHz. The transducer is designed to excite longitudinal waves in liquids and can be used as an acoustic mixer, atomizer or part of a sonochemical reactor. It is believed that the better understanding of the frequency aspects of ultrasonic generators and actuators will facilitate the development of new trends in Lab-on-a-chip technologies, which enable a number of applications, particularly, in biomedicine.
