A Fast ILS Electromagnetic Covering Analysis Method for New Obstacles Impact at Expanded Airport

The increasing developing of Civil Aviation leads to a Renaissance of new airport building and rebuilding at China. As the range of the airport expanding, the existing and expansion of buildings around the airport have caused the electromagnetic environment due to equipping with various communication and navigation equipment to be disturbed. The conventional Instrument Landing System (ILS) electromagnetic covering analysis at airport terminal control area is based on the results of test flight testing and flight calibration which consume largely cost and time. In this work, a fast electromagnetic environment analysis method for the impact of new obstacles around the airport is proposed. Firstly, the signal model of the ILS with category I and category II is established. The Electromagnetic covering result of Localizer (LOC) guidance is analyzed. Then the characteristics of the obstacles are resolved under the HFSS environment. Finally the impact of new obstacles around the airport on the electromagnetic covering and the interference of the ILS are diagnosed. The simulating result is concordant with the real data collected from test flight at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport. Using the analysis results, certain reference information can be provided for the position selection and adjustment of LOC.
