Internet of Things-Based Revenue Collection System for Tricycle Vehicle Operators

In this paper, internet of things-based revenue collection system for tricycle vehicle operators is presented. The system is capable of eliminating or minimizing revenue leakages prevalent in the existing manual revenue collection process. The methodology of the research includes: designing of subsystem block models; overall system block diagram; and subsystem flowchart diagrams. More so, an android application is developed which is used as input interface for bio-data information collection. Two microcontroller-based interface sub-circuits were also designed, constructed and embedded into the tricycle and thermal printer (levy box). One of the sub-circuits serves as an interface circuit between the android cell phone and the thermal printer, while the other sub-circuit is used to interface between the android cell phone, GPS/GPRS and the cloud internet of things (IOTs). Furthermore, a Wi-Fi module is used to provide internet connectivity for the entire set up. The system was designed with Uyo metropolis in Akwa Ibom State as the case study. Results of the research work show that the application system meets the design specifications. If adopted by the State Government, the system will effectively address the problem of leakages inherent in the manual method of revenue collection and thereby increase revenue generation from the tricycle vehicle operators.
