A Review and Outlook of User Side Energy Storage Development in China

The scale of China’s energy storage market continues to increase at a high growth rate. The rapid development of electrochemical energy storage, especially user side energy storage, has once again triggered widespread concern and heated discussion. The industry and academia have not only gradually deepened their discussion on issues such as business model innovation and policy direction, but also began to recognize the importance of technology upgrading, safe operation management, and industrial ecology shaping. This paper summarizes the development status of China's user side energy storage, and analyzes the user-side energy storage business model such as energy arbitrage, demand side response, energy storage + new energy. Then the challenges of current user-side energy storage development, such as uncertainty of electricity price policy and the lack of household energy storage market, are investigated. Finally, aiming at fully release the potential of user side energy storage, this paper presents an outlook on the future development of energy storage and provides relevant policy recommendations.
