An Improved Strategy for Distributed Generation Control and Power Sharing in Islanded Microgrid

The microgrid is referred to as a standalone system operating as a local distributed generation network. The microgrid in islanded operation finds difficulty in sharing (accurately) the active and reactive power. The difficulty arises due to variation/mismatch in the line impedance. This can be eliminated by implementing an improved control method for Distributed Generator (DG) unit that will enable accurate power-sharing and automatic frequency recovery in an islanded microgrid. Most of the researchers have opted a conventional p-f droop control method for DG control and self-frequency recovery. The approach developed focuses on error reduction and voltage recovery. The approach developed focuses on error reduction and voltage recovery. The main cause of error in power-sharing might arises due to instantaneous frequency deviation (IFD). The IFD may vary between different sets of DG units and point of load imbalance leading to errors in power-sharing. Thus to enable accurate sharing of active power and automatic frequency restoration a compensation technique has been proposed in this paper. The simulation result obtained adds advantages in enhancing the power quality of the microgrid.
