DentIS: Dental Bracing Procedure Information System Using Cosine Metric Algorithm for Image Processing

This paper presents an information system that uses image processing to automatically generate a set of procedures for dental bracing treatment displayed in a touchscreen monitor based on scanned dental x-ray as an input. The scanned x-ray image is digitized, matched with previously saved image in the database using Cosine Metric Algorithm. Also, it saves new entry for unmatched image. A printed copy of the procedure can be generated for the dentist' and patient's record. It is a system composed of hardware and software. The hardware consists of customized dental x-ray, control unit, monitor and printer. The software uses operating system and hardware drivers, and VB.Net to match the scanned image to the available one in the database. The result showed the system's ability to match the scanned x-ray image to the images available in the database and save the unmatched.
