CORDIC Based Phase Calibration Algorithm for Phase Coherent DSP Applications

The Digital beamforming, MIMO (Multiple InputMultiple output) communications, electronic warfare, RADAR are the potential applications that depends on multichannel phase coherency for the signal processing. This paper presents an elegant 4-channel internal monitoring calibration technique based on CORDIC algorithm that efficiently implements trigonometric function in FPGA hardware. The proposed method is implemented in space grade Virtex-5 FPGA. The hardware results show that the calibrated signal has a phase RMS accuracy of 0.2 degrees between the calibrated channels.
