Unit Protection of DC microgrid based on the Teager energy

In smart grid environment with the rapid development in communication infrastructure and processing capacity, unit protection is a promising technique. In this paper, a novel unit protection scheme is proposed based on the teager energy present in the signal. The difference in teager energy aids in the identification of external as well as internal fault occurring in the system. The proposed method has the capability of fast detection of fault and selective, reliable for the DC microgrid. The proposed protection strategy is implemented on a ring bus DC microgrid consisting of an Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) and a solid circuit breaker. Using MATLAB environment, the proposed technique is validated for different type of fault situations including high resistance fault and signal containing noise. The proposed unit protection scheme is capable enough to find the results with high accuracy and speed.
