Low-cost GNSS modules for Precise Positioning

Low-cost (around 100-200 US$), compact, low-power consuming GNSS modules are being increasingly available in the global market recently; precision and capability of such modules may open new prospects of solution developments. One of the methods of enhancing the quality of solution is the use of Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) method using such modules. This paper presents the results of the preliminary studies on the performance of such modules using Multi-GNSS from India. Comparison of performances of geodetic receiver and low-cost receiver as Base and low-cost, single frequency receivers as Rovers operating in short-baseline, static mode has been presented here. The results show decimeter-level solution performance in both the cases; the results may be useful in enhancing the confidence of using such systems for various applications including strategic ones.
