Device-to-Device Communication with Weather Considered Combined Mechanism of Millimeter Wave and Microwave Band

Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is appeared to be an exclusive component of next-generation cellular communication. It is introduced to enhance network performances, increase the spectral efficiency and reduce the communication delay. However, it comes with some communication challenges in terms of interference and protocol sharing with conventional cellular communication in the microwave band. Therefore a microwave ( μW) and millimeter wave (mmW) combined technique can be taken into account to avoid these challenges. This paper aims to introduce such a hybrid band sharing algorithm for outdoor D2D scenario considering both line-of-sight (LOS) link availability and weather parameters such as rain and fog. The performance of this combined band algorithm is then compared with each of the individual band communication (i.e., μW or mmW). The proposed mechanism shows improved performance at any weather condition and blockage scenario.
