A Low Cost Wireless Braille System Hand Glove for Real Time Communication

Although many books and literature have been written in Braille system for visually impaired people, no convenient method exists for them to access electronic materials or e-books or convert their Braille messages to electronic format such as files on computer systems. There are some basic electronic systems available for access to braille materials, but most of them lack in suitability for computer-based interaction and suffer from privacy issues. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a low-cost wireless braille system hand glove that enables visually impaired people to read from a computer by sensing vibration on their fingers and write to a computer by bending fingers or doing hand gestures. Slot sensors installed on the hand glove are used for writing and pager motors are used for reading. The device is low cost and effective and operates in real time.
