“Impact of EV on Integration with Grid System – A Review”

The shortage of fossil fuels and environmental pollution creates pressure for transportation and power system. The use of Electric Vehicle (EVs) can able to mitigate these problems to some extent. Peak load in distribution system can be reduced by using EVs. By using different charging strategies of EV, we can reduce the adverse effect of EV penetration in the peak load demand and hence improves load factor of system. A vehicle with the ability of V2G technology, presents many advantages like filtering of current harmonics, active power regulation, balancing of load etc. With these attributes, EVs provide various ancillary services like spinning reserve and regulation of frequency and voltage. Despite of reducing many challenges in grid system, increased use of EV has come with some other problems for power system. Use of EVs affects the power quality in adverse manner because to recharge their batteries, they required large amount of power. Rising interference of EV in grid causes decrease in life cycle of the transformer. The mining of lithium (which is used in batteries of EV) result in production of greenhouse gases, environmental pollution and affects the human health. This paper presents a detailed review on the impacts of electric vehicle on integration with grid system.
