Optimization of the PI controller to improve the dynamic performance of grid-connected photovoltaic system

Optimizing the Proportional-Integral (PI) controller parameters can enhance the photovoltaic (PV) operation when it is connected to the grid. In this work, optimization is carried out through using two optimization techniques. First one is Harmony Search (HS) approach. While the second optimization technique is the Teaching-Learning-Based approach (TLBO). MATLAB/SIMULINK is utilized to simulate a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) model which is consisted of four arrays with maximum power of 100 kW each. Finally, this study presents comparison with four cases i.e. without PI controller, with manual tuning of PI controller, value of the PI controller by HS and value of the PI controller by TLBO. The comparison showed enhancing of Maximum overshot by around 20% and steady state error by around 65 % than manual tuning.
