Power Displacement Analysis for Power Systems - A Commodity Model

Power is a commodity that is said to be delivered by displacement in power systems. It is like an ice-baton passed by one runner to another in a relay race, with some loss at each transfer. Mathematical analysis of this physical view is presented in this paper. An innovative concept of junction in place of bus is proposed for this purpose. At junctions, power-displacements are specified. Computation is first done for one-generator modules. Superposition of results from modules is used for multi-generator case. Generators push powers towards the load because of turbines behind them. In this process they push one another. Mathematical analysis of this mechanism is used to obtain line-flows, voltages, their phase-angles and reactive powers of generators. NR-flow is not needed. Regions of influence of generators can also be determined. This commodity model is expected to be useful for regulators dealing with power markets.
