Efficient Bandwidth Management of ISP by Load Balancing and Link Bundling

Internet traffic has increased tremendously, and it is anticipated to continue. The adequate bandwidth needed to carry this ever-increasing traffic has led to the addition of resources to current core network in ISP infrastructure and emergence of optical transport technologies have provided high speed backbone. Interior gateway protocols commonly used topology-driven path selection. These protocols do not consider the characteristics of offered traffic and constraints of network capacity when making routing decisions. This may result in parts of network underutilized. The developments in level switching technique and differentiated QoS have paved a way to address shortfalls of the existing systems. We propose to bundle ports to augmenting the bandwidth without incurring capital expenditure. It is also proposed to avoid congestion by load balancing specific traffic and to move away from congested resources to relatively underutilized ones improving the value of the network to service provider and internet user community.
