Design of Fixed gain Rotor Oscillations Controller Using State Space Modeling

In the process of Rotor Oscillations Controller (ROC) design, the most crucial stage is to develop the dynamic equations of the synchronously revolving magnetic fields and the corresponding oscillating frequency. Since the controller has to work around a critical operating frequency, an improper evaluation of the same may leads to the malfunction of the control system. For the system to be controlled by an intelligent mechanism, information and impact of all the system variables to be known. And also they need to be normalized. In this paper a state space model of the ROC is proposed where the time constants of the system being evaluated by matrix reduction technique and the overall damping of the system is proved to be improved. By using the real time data from ABB-Unitrol 6000 Power System Stabilizer installed in Adani –Kawai unit the stability of the system being evaluated. The critical tuning of the controller parameters have been done systematically and final conclusions given.
