A Smart Forwarding Scheme for the Interest Packet in VNDN

Named Data Network (NDN) has caused wide concerns in vehicle network area, because NDN use a content-centric mechanism, that naming content rather than host. However, the simple VNDN (Vehicle NDN) architecture also faces several challenges including consumer/provider mobility, interest packet flooding that can result in a broadcast storm problem, and so on. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme that named BRFD (Bayesian-based Receiver Forwarding Decision scheme for the interest packet) to mitigate the broadcast storm problem of interest packet in VNDN. In BRFD, vehicles are required to share their operating state information with their neighbors and learn network operation condition based on Bayesian Decision Model. And a vehicle will forward a received interest packet according to current network condition. So, BRFD can efficiently suppress the broadcast storm problem that resulted by interest flooding in VNDN. Experimental results show that BRFD algorithm performs better in the total interest packets in network, the interest packets satisfaction delay, and the interest packets satisfaction rate compared with the traditional NDN forwarding strategy.
