Optimal Siting and Sizing of Wind Farm Considering Peak Load Regulation Capability of Power System

Wind curtailment caused by lack of peak load regulation capability invalidates the large-scale installed wind energy capacity and results in low economic efficiency. Based on the daily fluctuation and seasonal operation pattern of wind power and load, this paper introduces two extreme scenarios to describe the impact of wind power integration on peak load regulation of power system. A wind farm planning model considering the peak load regulation capability is proposed. The objective of the model is to maximize the total profit with the system operation constraints considered. After solving the proposed model, the optimal construction site and size of wind farm can be obtained. Case study on IEEE 24-node 38-bus test system verifies the effectiveness of the proposed model.
