Advanced Intelligent Micro Inverter Control in the Distributed Solar Generation System

Since the solar energy system is an effective alternative to the conventional fossil fuel-based generation, research and development of its intelligent control in the distributed smart grid is an inevitable trend in the power and energy system. Although many grid-support functionalities was proposed in the literature, the integration of different functionalities is still lack of consideration in the previous research. To address it, this paper proposes an advanced intelligent solar photovoltaic (PV) micro-inverter control scheme that simultaneously contains Volt-Var control, low voltage ride through (LVRT), and system frequency response. It is worthy to mention that the proposed control demands no additional devices but makes the micro inverter more self-sustaining and reliable. A two-stage single-phase grid-forming PV inverter is simulated with various transient voltage/frequency issues in the MATLAB. The effectiveness of the proposed intelligent control can be verified in the simulation results.
