Design and performance of the LHCb detector and full real-time reconstruction in Run 2 of the LHC

The LHCb trigger had been overhauled to perform in real-time the full offline detector reconstruction as well as alignment and calibration. This redesign, implemented in Run 2, together with a software infrastructure for persisting the high-level physics objects created during real-time processing, has allowed for the broad implementation of real-time analysis. Furthermore, the widening of the LHCb physics program and the higher precision made possible by the large dataset collected in Run 2 prompted the development of several new techniques for precise calibration of the detector performance. The Run 2 trigger design and real-time reconstruction is outlined, and data-driven performance for a representative sample of the experiment's physics programme is reported.
