A Review on Flare Gas Potentials for Electricity Generation in Iran

Over the past decades, Iran has tried to improve oil and gas extraction since major part of the government revenue and economy come from crude oil production and export. This focus has shifted away the attention from energy efficiency and caused waste production. Gas flaring is considered as a major challenge in petroleum industry creating major environmental and health problems in the country due to improper disposal. This paper explores the potential of harnessing the energy of flared gas as a low calorific fuel to generate electricity, reduce GHG emissions and minimize environmental problems.
